Ministries & Work Areas
Pastor Chris was appointed to First United Methodist Church of Homosassa on July 1st, 2018 and comes to us from Keystone United Methodist Church in Odessa, where he served from July 2013 to June 2018. Beginning in 1994, he has served a broad spectrum of appointments, including Texas, northern England and most recently Florida. He is married to Heather, his wonderful wife of 23 years who is an RN at St Joseph’s North. They have two sons, Ethan and Caleb. Away from the church, Pastor Chris enjoys visiting Disney, following his beloved English football team, Leicester City, and catching the latest movie releases.
Donna Munsen joined the staff in February 2017. She is the church's go-to person whose work touches all of our members, staff, volunteers and visitors.
In addition to keeping the office humming, she supervises the church custodian, bookkeeper and a cadre of volunteers; oversees maintenance of a database of people the church assists with food, financial aid for utilities, and other needs; and always knows where everyone and everything can be found.
Donna and her husband Bob have lived in Florida for 37 years and enjoy visiting with family in Georgia, Illinois and Maine and showing their dog in AKC obedience and rally. In addition, Donna likes reading, crocheting and gardening.
Wayne Brown joined the staff in August 2012. A church member since 2007, Wayne has taught Bible study and Sunday school classes to adults and youth, including all four Disciple series Bible study classes.
Wayne leads the team of volunteers that teach the Youth Group, organizes and implements youth activities and Christian studies to help our youth grow into productive Christian adults.A native of southern Indiana, Wayne and his wife Krissy, who also volunteers with the youth, live in Sugarmill Woods. Wayne's interests include reading science fiction and fantasy, playing games of all sorts, and saltwater fishing.
Margie and Laurie complement each other as they teach the differing ages of children about our awesome Savior.
Dixie Lay joined the staff in 2010. She oversees all aspects of the church music program including the Chancel Choir, Sunrise Singers, Handbell Choir, and all special music.
Dixie received her bachelor's degree in music education from the University of West Florida and a master's degree in education from the University of Southern Mississippi. She began working in Methodist ministry at age 17 and has served as a children's pastor, youth pastor, youth drama director, and children's choir and children's handbell choir director.
Dixie teaches math and chorus at Lecanto High. She and her husband, Brady, live in Sugarmill Woods with their two children, Jeralyn and Reed.
Sandy Dewart joined the staff in July 2003. As a church member, Sandy first volunteered to audit the church’s financial records before taking the bookkeeper position.
Sandy has implemented many of the practices used to date. She maintains all church financial records, manages payroll and accounts payable/receivable, and attends monthly finance meetings. Her attention to detail helps us be good stewards of offerings/donations made to the church. Sandy is in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sandy lives in Homosassa. She enjoys time with her family, boating, and decorating.
Laurie and Margie have lots of fun with the children in our church and invite you to come on by and say “hi” on Sunday mornings! You will find them in Room 111 or 112 or just listen for the sound of laughter and singing.
Dale Evans joined the staff in July 2003. He is responsible for the overall care and cleanliness of the church campus from the sanctuary to the parlor, from the kitchen to our administrative offices, and everything in between.
Dale and his wife Jerry live in Beverly Hills. Dale, a volunteer fire fighter, enjoys camping, paint ball wars, and spending time with his family.
Ron Hesketh joined the staff in 2011 and has been a church member since 2004. His primary responsibility is to provide audio and video support for all functions in the Fellowship Hall, and to serve as back-up for Sunday services.
He also oversees staging and lighting setup for all Fellowship Hall productions.Ron and his wife Joyce, who is involved in a variety of church activities, live in Homosassa. His hobbies include singing with Tuned To Revival, the church's gospel quartet, and in a barbershop quartet, woodworking, and model trains.
Branden Paul started out in the Youth Group and as a volunteer video operator for Sunday services in 2010 and joined our church as an A/V Tech in June 2018. His experience with A/V systems prior to 2010 was in another local church and at his middle school and high school. Currently, his primary responsibilities include maintaining and operating audio, video, and lighting equipment for the church. He also supports an amazing group of volunteers and staff to ensure everything goes smoothly for all church events.
Donna Tripp joined the staff in June, 2018. She has over 25 years of choir accompaniment and church pianist experience and loves serving the Lord with her fingers and heart. She enjoys using her computerized keyboard to arrange and record CD's that are used as background music during her piano solos.
Donna also co-chairs the Drama Team with her husband, Jim, and has written, composed, and produced over 10 Christian musical dramas. She has also served as Music Director to productions at several community theaters across Florida. Her husband Jim sings baritone in the choir and has acted in many Christian plays as well.
Donna and Jim just recently relocated to their Crystal River home from St. Petersburg, but not before living briefly in Arcadia and Old Town, Florida -"just to try out country living". They operate their business - Homeland Manufacturing - from Crystal River, which sells industrial ladders, platforms, and cargo lifts to the public.
Karen Kline joined the staff in May 2010. She has been a member of the Church since 2004 and is a Stephen Minister, a Stephen Minister Coordinator, and a Stephen Minister Trainer.
A registered nurse, Karen has years of experience and brings a down-to-earth approach to life and health. Karen has helped us gain the title of a "Dementia Friendly Church" and runs the Memory Lane Respite Program on Monday's from 1 to 3 pm.
Joy Potts is the organist at 1UMC Homosassa. She has 28 years of church organ experience and is a lifelong pianist. Joy is a published composer of both sacred and secular music.
She and husband Jim located to Homosassa following her retirement in 2000 from an administrative position at Lake Forest College in Illinois. Jim is equally involved in 1UMC in various capacities. Joy and Jim combined have nine children and 21 grandchildren, most of whom live in northern Illinois.
